Wood painting and fabric painting
Techniques, stencils and models

Wood painting allows to use these objects, out-of-date, damaged or which do not like any more and to give them a new life while making them decorative.
To restore an old object out of wooden, or to paint an new object (too much clear and new), it is useful to paint it into an uniform color (after cleaning, possible sandpapering and de-dusting).
Sometimes, a simple color diluted well and letting appear the veins of wood has a beautiful effect.
I always use acrylic painting. What is explained here about wood painting technique is rather similar in the case of fabric painting. On the other hand, fabric painting is specific, it must be fixed either at the domestic iron or with the furnace with 150° not to disappear with washing...
Use of stencil
It is the simplest and fastest way to paint, ideal thus to begin wood painting.
One now finds many plasticized and rigid stencils very practical to use. Some are even slightly self-adhesive, if not it is necessary to fix the stencil with an adhesive for stencil for good to maintain it in place (one of the essential conditions of the success!).
If they are a single part, ridges a test on paper for testing well your colors and the effect of the drawing : all the pleasure of the stencil paint is there, in the set of the colors...

For an effect of "dotting", use preferably a stencil brush, short handle (that costs less than 2 euros) : more practical to use, the result is prettier too. If not, use a brush with flat end. Tap with a brush whose surplus of painting was deposited as a preliminary on a rag.
Not to overflow, it is necessary that the brush is hardly wet (if not moisture involves painting through wood fibres or fabric fibres).
For more melted painting, one applies it to the brush by circular motions in the cut out zones of the stencil. Let dry before applying a second stencil. Some drawings are obtained by the successive use of stencils.
In the event of bur, one can improve with the fine brush by using the prime coat... in the case of wood painting, because with fabric painting, a task is indelible : not right to the error !
To protect painting, it is then necessary to apply two layers of varnish in bomb or with the brush.
Wood painting without stencils...
Do not hesitate to launch you, provided with fine brushes and even very fine, to carry out small drawings, it is a true pleasure, believe me!

This wood board has two faces: one is painted and varnished, the other is preserved rough in order to authorize the contact of food.

The cock (feathers of the tail and legs) and the trunks of the trees overflow of the framework of the drawing. Around the drawing, wood is covered with a very light white painting.
The nodes of wood are not dissimulated under painting and play hide-and-seek as some clouds.

A jewel box
A basic color was applied to the whole of the outside of the box and to the interior edges.
Dry once, very fine brushes of rigour to set up some wild flowers...

Small "more": a small ladybird is painted at the bottom of the box... it was not easy, but I liked the idea!

Decoration for kitchen: coffee filter box
|
This time, the pine wood is left apparent. Although the object is already varnished, acrylic painting hangs without problem.
It is about one mix between wood painting and salt dough modellings. The edges of the boxe are raised of a constrated color, the sheet painting is the only difficulty (effect of darker or clearer colors on the edges).
Salt dough modellings are emphasized by their double use: the coffee mill is stuck while the coffee beans are suspended and free.

The salt dough can be replaced by self-hardening clay, seen the smallness of the elements to model. |
